Community Outreach Program
About the Program
The purpose of the 2021-2022 Keiga Foundation and Keiga Dance Company and School of Dance Outreach Program is to support the physical, mental, and emotional well being, development and education of children in slums in Kampala and Jinja.
For this, we provide meals, mental health counseling, and dance training to children in several communites such as Kawempe, Kabalagala Kikuba Mutwe, Kamwokya (Kampala) and Masese (Jinja).
For some of the children, the basic meals provided through this program will be the only meal they have that day.
The dance classes will foster the feeling of community and belonging; furthermore, they teach skills that students can use to be successful in school and open more opportunities later in life: improved focus, listening skills, discipline, social abilities, physicality, and ultimately self-confidence.
The lessons will also serve to identify promising talents for further vocational training in the performing arts sector by Keiga Dance Company. Finally, social workers will accompany Keiga Dance Company members in this program to provide mental health counseling for the children who may never have had the opportunity to receive support for their mental health before.
